Mrs. Faye Schenk, president of the American Zionist Federation, today voiced strong opposition to the proposed American sale of anti-aircraft missile systems to Jordan and urged Congress to veto the proposal.

“At this time, when the Administration is ‘reassessing’ its policy in the Middle East, we were more than surprised to hear about the proposed sale of anti-aircraft missile systems to Jordan. We strongly believe that such a move would constitute a grave threat to the security of the State of Israel and we will, therefore, do all that is within our power to prevent such a transaction.” Mrs. Schenk declared.

Recalling the events in the Middle East during the recent weeks. Mrs. Schenk said that the Administration’s move was even more baffling considering the recent “defense” agreements between Jordan and Syria, agreements actually aimed against Israel and providing for military cooperation between the two Arab countries.

“We all know, as does the Administration, that should hostilities be resumed in the Middle East, Jordan will take an active part in the aggression against Israel, and open a third front against her. Jordan needs the anti-aircraft missile system to enable her airforce to strike against Israel under the cover of an American made umbrella,” the Zionist leader said.
