Israel is providing flood-stricken Rumania with $2 million worth of aid, Commerce Minister Haim Barlev said last night. Speaking at a rally of Rumanian Jews marking the 31st anniversary of Rumania’s liberation from Nazi rule, Barlev said the aid will be in the form of fertilizer, fodder, seed and medical supplies.
He said a Rumanian economic delegation will visit Israel at the end of the year to negotiate trade agreements. Barlev said there is room to expand trade between the two countries as Israel’s exports to Rumania total $17 million and imports $27 million. However, he noted, in the area of tourism there is much room for expansion. While 16,000 Israelis visited Rumania last year, only 2000 Rumanian tourists came to Israel, Barlev said.
