Syrian President Hafez Assad attended a special ballet performance Thursday night in his honor at the Elysee Palace. If he knew what he and his group saw, it must have been a strange experience.
The show was the ballet “Gisele.” based on a ballad by a German Jew. Heinrich Heine; with music by a French Jew. Adolphe Adam; the choreography by Jean Sinelli, an Italian Jew, and danced in the main role by Paris Opera star dancer Dominique Khalfouni, an Algerian born Jew.
