The Herut Party won the Zionist elections in Belgium with 38 percent of the total vote. It obtained 37 percent in Brussels and 45 percent in Antwerp. The second list was a coalition of Mapam, Hashomer Hatzair and a non-party list which won 22.5 percent of the vote, followed by a “Union of Democratic United Zionists” which obtained 22 percent of the vote. The list which combined General Zionists and individual candidates under the heading “Am Ehad” obtained 18.35 percent of the vote. Belgium is the first country to have held elections for the World Zionist Congress which has been postponed in the meantime. Ten percent of Jewish families took part in the vote.
