Israeli music lovers may soon enjoy the talents of one of the Soviet Union’s leading musicians. Rudolf Barshai, who founded the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in 1955, said on his arrival here today that he planned to settle in Israel and work here. He said he has been offered the musical directorship of the Israeli Chamber Ensemble.
Barshai, 52, recognized as one of the foremost interpreters of Mozart, left the Soviet Union earlier this month and spent some time in Vienna and London. He said he emigrated because of the shabby treatment he received in Soviet musical circles. “I am very happy to be in the historic land of my people,” he told reporters at Ben Gurion Airport.
