Sidney Musher, president of P.E.F. Israel Endowment Funds, Inc., announced the receipt of $93,000 from the Jakob, Louise and Kurt Schwartz Trust upon the recommendation of the trustees, Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, and Mr. William Miller. He said $33,000 of the grant will be used for 145 secondary school scholarships primarily for students of Oriental extraction in Israel and giving preference to the vocational schools. The balance of $60,000 will be used for a sheltered workshop and other purposes for the blind in Israel.
Dr. Kurt Schwarz died in January, 1974 and directed that the proceeds from this Charitable Trust be used for the relief of the Jewish sick, blind and needy in Israel. Schwarz included the names of his parents in the title of the trust in order to honor them.
A new bill which was passed on first reading in the Knesset last week will increase the number of eligible voters in the May 17 elections. The bill would open the registration lists which were closed last Aug. 11 and allow anyone who will be 18 by election day to vote. It also will permit anyone who became an Israeli citizen by last Dec. 31 to be eligible to vote.
