Despite a report last weekend from the official Soviet news agency Tass that Anatoly Sharansky, the Soviet Jewish activist, was charged with “being a spy for the United States,” the National Conference on Soviet Jewry reported today that he is still being held in Moscow’s notorious Lefortovo Prison pending completion of an investigation against him by Soviet authorities. Sharansky was jailed last month following accusations that he worked for the Central Intelligency Agency.
