Two American scientists have won $35,000 Harvey Prizes for 1977, awarded annually by the Haifa Technion, it was announced by Technion president Amos Horev, chairman of the prize committee. The recipients are Seymour Benzer, professor of biology at the California institute of Technology, and Freeman John Dyson, professor of physics at Princeton University’s Institute of Advanced Studies.
Benzer won the prize in the field of human health and Dyson in science and technology. The prizes are funded by a $1 million endowment established in 1971 in the name of the late Leo M. Harvey of Los Angeles, founder and president of the Harvey Aluminum Co., who was a prominent member of the American Technion Society. Horev said the awards will be presented to the winners by President Ephraim Kutzir of Israel in ceremonies to be held at the Technion on June 22.
