Terrorists in Lebanon launched a new barrage of Katyusha rocket attacks on Israeli border villages today and drew a tough warning by Defense Minister Ezer Weizman that if these attacks continue, Israeli artillery will hit civilian centers in Lebanon.

Weizman was addressing the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee after a rocket struck an unoccupied school building in Kiryat Shemona this morning and an apartment house causing damage to both structures. No casualties were reported, apparently because the entire school population and residents of the town were in bomb shelters. Weizman said if the terrorists hit civilians, Israeli forces will strike at civilian targets across the border. He noted that Israel has far greater fire power than the terrorists.

Israeli artillery opened fire on terrorist rocket positions after the salvoes hit Kiryat Shemona and other border settlements in Upper Golilee. As was the case last week, the terrorist attacks on Israel followed a bitter exchange of fire between them and Christian forces in the enclaves along the border. The artillery and rocker duels that have been going on since last Friday have confined the entire Israeli population in the north to bomb shelters despite scold weather and heavy rains.
