The fourth Pan-American Maccabiah Games opened here today with participants from 16 countries including the U.S. and Canada. The inaugural ceremonies were attended by ranking Mexican government officials and sports figures, and Israel Peled, Mayor of Ramat Gan and president of the World Maccabee Union in Israel. For the first time in Maccabiah games, the competition included indoor soccer and bridge. A parallel event was the inauguration of a local Jewish sports center here attended by representatives of the countries participating in the games. Both events received considerable attention in the Mexican media.
In an unrelated development, the newly elected president of the Zionist Organization of Mexico, Manuel Levinsky, was installed along with the new secretary general, Mario Nudelstecher.
