The first real step towards normalization of relations between Israel and Egypt was made today when bundles of Israeli newspapers were sent by land route via El Arish to Egypt.
The first to make use of this route were the Jerusalem Post which issued a special supplement for the event, including articles in Arabic, and the Arab-language newspapers published in Israel. Beginning tomorrow 30 copies of each Israeli newspaper in Hebrew will also be sent to Egypt. The Hebrew newspapers are used mainly by research and intelligence agencies which until now got the papers in a roundabout way.
Egyptian newspapers will be sold in Israel beginning tomorrow. Agreements to that effect were signed by the Israel Atlas Distribution Company, which is responsible for the delivery of Israeli papers and the distribution for sale of Egyptian papers, the Osiris Office for Books and Reviews in Cairo, which deals with supplying Egyptian papers; and the Libraries Hachette of Cairo, which will distribute Israeli papers in Egypt.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
