Eight-year-old Oron Yarden, slain by a kidnapper, was buried yesterday at the cemetery in the Savyon quarter of Tel Aviv where he had lived. Thousands of persons attended the funeral services late in the afternoon. Education Minister Zevulun Hammer, representing the government, declared that “Oron’s death should serve as a turning point in our life, for it has rediscovered the unity of our people, the fact that we do care.”
The kidnap-murder which stunned Israelis posed problems as school classes for the summer vacation. Parents are fearful of allowing their children to play out of doors unguarded, or to let them attend summer camps. Israel Radio called on psychologists to advise parents how to explain the tragedy to their children.
