— A street in Porto Alegre, the capital of Brazil’s southern province of Rio Grande do Sul, has been named “Rua Golda Meir” in commemoration of the second anniversary of the death of the former Israeli Premier.
Porto Alegre has 15,000 Jews, the third largest Jewish community in Brazil. Other Brazilian cities have Jewish street names also. Rio de Janeiro has a Ben Gurion Square, a Herzl Street and a Zamenhof Street. Sao Paulo has a State of Israel Square and a Habad Street.
