A Security Council meeting scheduled for this afternoon to vote on a resolution increasing the number of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops was canceled today. No other date for the meeting was announced.

According to sources here, the meeting was canceled because members of the Council could not reach an agreement on a draft resolution. The sources said the main obstacle was Lebanon’s demand to include in the draft resolution issues other than the increases in the number of UNIFIL troops from the present 6,000 soldiers to 7,000. Sources at the UN said that beefing up the UN forces might help calm down the tense situation in south Lebanon which developed in the area recently. (By Yitzhak Rabi)
