Interior Minister Gerhart Baum has warned the Bundestag that the Palestine Liberation Organization is escalating its terrorist activities in West Germany and other parts of Europe and cited several recent cases of cooperation between the PLO and German terrorist groups.

In a written report to the Bundestag’s Interior Committee, Baum predicted further violence by the PLO but said the police were prepared to cope with it. He attributed these developments to conflicts among the rival factions within the PLO.

Baum also reported that Arab guerrillas from Syria have been active recently in the Federal Republic. He said it is assumed that they are out to assassinate leaders of a Moslem fundamentalist organization that opposes the regime of President Hafez, Assad in Damascus. The organization has its headquarters in Aachen, near the Belgian border.
