The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) is making an “immediate emergency relief commitment of $100,000 in support of humanitarian assistance in Lebanon,” it was announced here by JDC President Henry Taub.

The announcement was made following a meeting held of a Jewish communal task force, comprising representatives of national Jewish organizations, including the Council of Jewish Federations, National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council, B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress. It followed consultations with the United Jewish Appeal and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. The meeting was chaired by JDC Executive Vice-President Ralph Goldman.

According to Goldman, the JDC action parallels that of Catholic, Protestant and non-sectarian voluntary agencies in America, which have already announced Lebanon relief programs, and will be coordinated with the humanitarian programs announced by the United States government and the government of Israel.
