Lebanese President Amin Gemayel, in his meeting with Egypt’s Foreign Minister in Rome last week, bitterly criticized Israel for pressuring his country to conclude a peace treaty with the Jewish State, according to a report in Egypt’s semi-official news daily Al-Ahram.

According to Al-Ahram, a report received by President Hosni Mubarak from Egyptian Foreign Minister Kamal Hassan Ali on the meetings in Rome quotes the Lebanese President as accusing Israel of applying “foolish pressures which demonstrate a total lack of foresight.” Gemayel reportedly changed that Israel was attempting to achieve “full normalization of relations on the basis of ensuring the security and interests of Israel alone.”
