A new settlement was inaugurated at Itzhar, southeast of Nablus yesterday, the third on the West Bank since Sunday in the “Likud government’s drive to establish as many settlements as possible in the occupied territories before next Monday’s Knesset elections.

Itzhar had been a military outpost. Inauguration of another settlement nearby was cancelled, apparently because it was not ready to receive civilian settlers. But ceremonies are planned tomorrow for a settlement at Hagai, south of Hebron. Three new settlements will be dedicated in the Gaza Strip Sunday, climaxing the latest drive.
