Israelis seeking new homes favor the West Bank over Galilee by almost six to one, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics last week.

In 1984, 6,000 Israelis, both new immigrants and longtime citizens, settled on the West Bank, compared to only 1,600 who moved to Galilee and the Golan Heights. Unofficial but reliable estimates put the Jewish population in the West Bank at between 35-40,000 and on the Golan Heights slightly over 10,000.
