Two Jewish officials, Claude Zilberzahn,50, and Lucien Kalfon,49, have been appointed to the highest ranking posts in the French civil service. The two were promoted to “prefects,” the French equivalent of Governor which is in France a non-elective post.

Zilberzahn, a former aide to Premier Laurent Fabius, will serve as Prefect of Upper Normandy. Kalfon, a former aide to the State Secretary for Foreign Trade, will serve as Prefect of the Upper Alps.

Algerian-born Kalfon comes from a practicing Jewish family while Zilberzahn was born into an old Alsatian Jewish family. Both men have up till now kept away from foreign affairs and are not known to be members in any Zionist organizations.
