The badly decomposed body of an Arab journalist who has been missing since October 3 was found near the Ramallah-Latrun highway over the weekend. The remains were identified as those of Hassan Abdul Halim Fakih, 37, a reporter for the East Jerusalem Arabic newspaper Al Fajr.

Police believe he was murdered. The Itim news agency reported however that security forces think Fakih was killed while trying to assemble a bomb for terrorist purposes or while practicing throwing grenades. Grenade fragments were found near the corpse which was spotted by two shepherds who summoned police.

Fakih’s editor, Hanna Seniora, accepts the murder theory. He suggested that Fakih’s death was somehow connected with the West Bank land sales scandals now under investigation which he was covering for the paper.

There will be no Bulletin dated December 25, Christmas Day, a postal holiday.
