Rabbi William Berkowitz, national president of the American Jewish Heritage Association, said in a statement, that the death of Boris Smolar “leaves behind a tremendous void in the ranks of journalism and the Jewish people. A journalist’s journalist, Boris Smolar brought a pioneer spirit to his tasks as he always exhibited courage and intelligence under the most trying of circumstances. His skill as writer and editor, as devoted Jew and caring human being will long be remembered and appreciated and serve as a motto for generations to come.”
