The biannual meeting on strategic cooperation between Israel and the U.S. which was to have begun Monday in Washington has been postponed because of a family tragedy. David Ivri, Director General of the Israel Defense Ministry, was in Washington Monday when he learned of the death of his son, Air Force Capt. Gil Ivri, 27, in the crash of his F-16 fighter bomber during a training exercise.

Ivri immediately joined his wife, Ofra, in New York and returned to Israel for the burial of their son Tuesday. The strategic talks will be held at a later date. Ivri, along with Maj. Gen. Danny Yotam of the Israel Defense Force planning branch, heads the Israeli delegation of ranking Defense Ministry personnel and IDF senior officers.
