Israel had to release four most-wanted terrorists it held in custody because of a commitment to the United States, an Israel Defense Force officer has revealed.
Col. David Yahav, outgoing legal adviser to the IDF in the West Bank, made the disclosure last week at a study evening on human and civil rights in Jerusalem.
He said the four terrorists were freed because it was not possible to bring them before a judge within 96 hours of their arrest.
“Israel made a commitment to the United States to be meticulous on this issue,” Yahav said.
“Every administrative detainee is brought before a judge within 96 hours after his detention, and every three months there are deliberations on the continuation of his detention,” the colonel said.
