Israel, Egypt and Cyprus held a joint environmental exercise off the coast of the Egyptian city of Port Said this week to deal with marine pollution.

The unprecedented three-day operation began Sunday, as part of a regional emergency plan to deal with marine pollution.

The exercise, which received funds from the European Union, took place in the wake of a recent international agreement on cleaning up the Mediterranean Sea.

Under the operation’s scenario, the three countries worked together to contain a simulated fuel tanker leak at the Suez Canal.
