Assistant Secretary of State Robert Pelletreau, who was in Riyadh last week to meet with King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, reiterated Washington’s call for an end to the Arab boycott of Israel.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Sultan was recently quoted as saying that his country would not lift the boycott until Israel achieved peace with Syria and Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia joined the other Persian Gulf states in agreeing last year to lift the secondary and tertiary boycotts of Israel as a result of Israeli and Palestinian peace moves.
