An El Al flight to New Delhi and Bangkok was forced to turn around shortly after takeoff this week after it was hit by lightning.

Monday’s accident damaged the Plane’s weather radar equipment, forcing the plane to return to Ben-Gurion Airport for repairs.

None of the 270 passengers on board were injured.

“The airplanes are designed for weather problems, and lightning strikes are very common, especially in the winter time,” said El Al spokesman Nahman Kleiman. “The passengers felt a jolt, but nobody was affected.”

The flight took off after spending an hour on the ground.
