Zoo to enforce Passover diet

JERUSALEM, April 8 (JTA) — Animals at Jerusalem’s biblical zoo will not be given bread during Passover — but they won’t be getting matzah brei, either. Although the Jewish prohibition against eating bread during the holiday applies only to humans, zoo officials thought visitors might be offended watching the animals eat bread. Instead of matzah, the animals — as you might expect — will be given hay.
