Eighty-four senators urged President Clinton to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, a fact that should have been recognized long ago by putting our embassy there,” the lawmakers said in a letter to Clinton. While this is not the first letter from legislators urging the move, it came after Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak urged members of Congress during a visit to Washington last week to let him take the lead on such issues.
