U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross flew to Israel to brief Israeli officials about the failed summit between President Clinton and Syrian President Hafez Assad. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is meanwhile shifting his attention from the Syrian track to Israel’s planned withdrawal from Lebanon and the final-status talks with the Palestinians, according to Cabinet member Haim Ramon.
