The United States welcomed the announcement that Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat will meet Wednesday. “This is an important step which we hope will contribute significantly to reinforcing efforts to halt the violence and build a substantive political dialogue,” U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
