Poland marked the anniversary of the first transport of prisoners to Auschwitz. Ceremonies were held Wednesday at the former Nazi death camp for the 728 prisoners, mostly Catholic Poles persecuted for their political views, as well as a small number of Jews. The prisoners were transported from an infamous prison in Tarnow in the south of the country on June 14, 1940.
