Stars from several Broadway shows will perform a comedic rendition of the Purim story at a benefit for birthright israel in New York. The National Entertainment Fund for the Cultural Arts is presenting Monday’s show, which will include performances from stars of Broadway productions “Rent,” “Mamma Mia” and “Avenue Q,” among others. “Where else would you find an American Idol, a Broadway idol, major Jewish philanthropists, the Israeli consul general and hundreds of young people in their 20s under one roof celebrating the holiday of Purim?” asked Rebecca Sugar, director of alumni programming for birthright israel in New York. The third annual Broadway Purim Shpiel is supported by philanthropists Michael Steinhardt, Charles Bronfman and Lynn Schusterman.
