An Israeli lecturer was among the victims of a Virginia campus massacre. Liviu Librescu, a researcher and lecturer in engineering science and mechanics, was among those killed at
Virginia Polytechnic Institute on Monday when a student went on a shooting spree that took 32 lives.

Librescu died when he blocked the door to a lecture hall with his body, saving the students inside.

“My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to
flee,” Joe Librescu said in Tel Aviv. “Students started opening windows and jumping
out.”The Associated Press reported that Librescu, a Romanian-born Holocaust survivor in his 70s, immigrated to Israel in 1978 and moved to
Virginia in 1985 for his sabbatical, and had stayed since then.
