Israel could kill the Palestinian Authority prime minister if he is deemed responsible for Hamas rocket attacks, a senior Israeli official said. Asked Tuesday if Ismail Haniyeh, a top Hamas leader, is on Israel’s hit list, Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh said: “There is no one who is in the circle of commanders and leaders in Hamas who is immune from a strike. For what does political Hamas do? It gives the operational approval to those doing the fighting.” Sneh, who was speaking on Israel Radio, came out against calls by some Israeli leaders to cut off power and water supplies to Gaza. “We want to drive a wedge between Hamas and the populace, not to rally the populace behind Hamas,” he said. “The more collective the punishment, the more people are swept up to back Hamas.”
