Israir stewards threatened to go on strike.
The Israeli airline’s cabin staff declared a trade dispute Sunday, demanding better working conditions from management. If the dispute is not resolved within two weeks, the stewards said, they will go on strike.
The staffers want a collective contract that provides wages for time spent preparing flights and cleaning up after landing. Under the current, individual contracts, they are paid only for time in the air.
Israir’s stewards further complained that no facilities are provided for them on flights and thus are often forced to sleep on the floor of the aircraft.
Israir’s management said the companies’ standards are in line with those of other airlines, but that it would examine the stewards’ demands.
A recent competitor to El Al, Israir flies to dozens of destinations in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as between Tel Aviv and Eilat.
