Israel’s foreign minister cast doubt on the viability of a cease-fire with Hamas during her state visit to Washington.
“I do not believe in a situation where we will allow Hamas to decide when it will attack and when it will regroup,” Tzipi Livin told think tank scholars in a meeting Monday before meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Vice President Dick Cheney and members of Congress.
The Bush administration reportedly favors a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip that would be brokered by Egypt. Terrorists, enabled by Gaza’s Hamas rulers, have intensified rocket attacks on Israel’s south in recent months, and Israeli incursions have escalated in response.
