The Turkish and Israeli foreign ministers discussed peace overtures from Syria.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni had a meeting Friday in London with her Turkish counterpart, Ali Babacan, Israel Radio reported.

Turkish mediation between Israel and Syria recently yielded initial results, with both sides now suggesting the prospects have improved for a peace deal that would involve Israel relinquishing the Golan Heights.

The United States has cautioned Israel to go slowly in the talks, saying that Syria must first agree to end its ambitions of reestablishing hegemony in Lebanon.

Livni and Babacan were in London at a conference of donors to the Palestinian Authority.
