Russians beat Maccabi in basketball final

Maccabi Tel Aviv lost to a Russian team in a European cup final.

CSKA Moscow beat the Israelis, 91-77, in Madrid Sunday to take its sixth Euroleague cup.

Maccabi had hoped for a victory to usher in Israel’s 60th Independence Day this week.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, addressing his Cabinet earlier in the day, said the Tel Aviv squad represented “the entire State of Israel’s competitive and sporting spirit.”
