An Iranian was sentenced to death for allegedly spying for Israel.

Ali Ashtari, a businessman, received the death sentence in a Tehran court Monday after confessing to being a Mossad agent, state media reported.

His trial took two days, and it was not clear whether he would have the right of appeal.

Ashtari, 43, was described as the owner of a company that sells communications and security equipment to the Iranian government.

According to media reports, he said he had been paid $50,000 by three Israeli agents posing as foreign bank representatives.

Tehran officials said that Ashtari, under the Mossad’s orders, supplied faulty parts for Iran’s nuclear projects, some of which caused serious setbacks.

Jerusalem officials said they were unaware of the case, which comes amid spiraling Israeli-Iranian tensions over Tehran’s atomic ambitions.
