A Knesset committee approved a bill that would revoke the Israeli citizenship or residency of people participating in terrorism.
The Knesset Internal Affairs Committee approved the bill, submitted a year ago, permitting the interior minister to revoke citizenship or residency of anyone convicted of being involved in a terrorist organization, involvement in a terrorist activity, espionage or treason. The bill now moves on to the Knesset for its second and third readings.
The bill is similar to several other bills submitted following attacks in Jerusalem including the shooting attack on the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva and a bulldozer attack on Jaffa Road.
Also Monday, the Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee approved a bill that would allow the cancellation of state-funded burials for terrorists. It is now headed to the Knesset for its first reading.
Israeli residents who commit terrorist acts and are killed currently receive the same National Insurance Institute funeral benefits as residents killed in the attacks.
