Israel would attack Lebanon without restraint if a Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon struck Israel, Ehud Olmert said.

In a visit Tuesday to Israel’s Home Front Command, the Israeli prime minister warned that the next war with Lebanon would involve attacks on Israeli cities.

Speaking of the 2006 war with Hezbollah, Olmert said that Israel “did not use all means to respond then, but if Lebanon becomes a Hezbollah state, then we won’t have any restrictions in this regard.”

Olmert’s remarks were released in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, The Associated Press reported.

Last week, Lebanon’s Parliament approved a national unity Cabinet and upheld Hezbollah’s right to keep its weapons.
