The leader of the Republican Jewish Coalition will address the GOP convention on the same night as John McCain.

David Flaum, the RJC’s chairman, has been tapped to speak at the convention in St. Paul on Sept. 4, the same night that the Arizona senator and presumptive Republican nominee will deliver his acceptance speech.

“David Flaum’s participation in the GOP convention program is another example of the high priority the GOP gives to the issues of importance to the Jewish community and another indicator of the continued inroads the GOP is making amongst Jewish voters,” said the RJC’s executive director, Matt Brooks, in a statement Tuesday announcing the news.

According to the RJC, Flaum’s remarks will “touch on the strength of the U.S.-Israel relationship and highlight the strength and experience of John McCain and his leadership.”

The decision to grant Flaum the speaking slot comes on the heels of several polls suggesting that McCain could do better with Jewish voters than did recent Republican candidates.
