Census: 75.6 percent of Israelis are Jewish

Some 75.6 percent of Israel’s 7.2 million residents are Jewish, according to the annual census.

Israel’s 2007 population of 7,243,600 residents was an increase of 1.8 percent over the previous year, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics census, which is published each year the week before Rosh Hashana.

Some 20 percent of the population are Arabs, with the remaining 4.4 percent other groups.

There were 151,679 babies born in 2007, an increase of 2.4 percent. Israel is also young in relation to other Western countries, with 28 percent of the population under the age of 14.

The report also looked at Israel’s economy and found that there was growth in the economy and an increase in exports.
