The executive director of the American Jewish Congress stepped down.

Neil Goldstein left the organization last week to start a nonprofit advocacy organization, Energy Alternatives for the 21st Century. Along with its affiliated educational foundation, The Israel Energy Partnership, the group will be working for U.S. energy independence and for U.S.-Israel cooperation on energy research and development.

Goldstein, the executive director of AJCongress for 6 1/2 years, will continue to serve as a consultant to the organization on energy and other issues.

The group has launched a search for a new executive director. In the interim, the group’s national policy director, Matthew Mark Horn, and its general counsel, Marc Stern, have been named acting co-executive directors.
