JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli soldiers killed four Hamas gunmen near the Gaza border fence.

The terrorists were attempting to infiltrate Israel and plant explosives around the border in the area of Khan Younis near the Kissufim crossing, according to reports.

Kalashnikov rifles and grenades were found on the bodies of the Palestinian gunmen.

An Israeli soldier was wounded in the exchange, in which the soldiers pursued the gunmen into Gaza. The Palestinians fired mortar shells at the Kissufim crossing following the exchange.

There has been a significant rise in attempts by Palestinian terrorists to lay explosives near the border in an effort to attack army patrols, the Jerusalem Post reported.
