NEW YORK (JTA) — Longtime JTA editor Lisa Hostein is leaving the global news agency to become the executive editor of the Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia.
Hostein led JTA’s worldwide editorial team for 14 years and last summer became the senior editor, focusing on international coverage. Her new post in Philadelphia, which begins Jan. 5, marks a return to the paper where she began her journalistic career 25 years ago.
Hostein’s departure marks the "end of an era," said JTA publisher Mark Joffe. "She has made an enormous contribution to JTA over the years, producing a number of acclaimed investigative series, as well as excellent day-by-day coverage of world events and issues impacting the Jewish people."
JTA’s editor in chief, Ami Eden, says Hostein has left an impressive legacy.
"The agency’s accomplishments over the past 15 years are largely a testament to her leadership," Eden said. "Anything we achieve in the future will simply be an extension of her success."
Hostein, who has commuted to New York from the Philadelphia suburbs throughout her JTA tenure, says she is leaving JTA with mixed emotions.
"It has been an incredible honor to lead a team of individuals dedicated to covering the Jewish world and making JTA the go-to source for Jewish news wherever it happens," she said.
At the same time, Hostein said, returning to the Exponent presents "a wonderful opportunity to make a contribution to my home community."
