An organization representing 40 European Jewish communities will open an office in Israel.
The European Council of Jewish Communities in making the announcement Wednesday night said the office would enable the organization to increase its activities in the country. Council President Jonathan Joseph said the office recognizes the growing strength and influence of the European Jewish community.
“It opens endless cultural and economic opportunities, and the contact between the various cultures comes at a time when the European Jewish community is strengthening,” he said.
Leaders of member communities attended an event Wednesday at the official residence of the Israeli ambassador to London, Ron Prosor. They were joined by the Israeli actor Chaim Topol, community leaders and politicians.
The 40-year-old council attracts many young Jews who take part in its economic and educational projects. It recently opened new branches in Istanbul, Morocco, Berlin and Kiev, and signed cooperation agreements with various European Union governments.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
