NEW YORK (JTA) — A historically black college in Atlanta launched an initiative named for Yitzhak Rabin.

The Rabin-King Initiative at Morehouse College in Atlanta draws on the legacies of the former Israeli prime minister and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It will sponsor joint black and Jewish community service projects, develop an oral history of black and Jewish student civil rights leaders, and establish an endowed professorship.

The initiative was established in partnership with the Israeli Consulate in Atlanta and the local chapter of the American Jewish Committee.

As part of ceremonies Thursday launching the project, Morehouse inducted three rabbis into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers — Marc Schneier, David Saperstein and Peter Berg — along with dozens of Christian clergy.
