Rapper LL Cool J honored by inter-ethnic group

NEW YORK (JTA) — Rapper LL Cool J was honored by the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding for promoting racial harmony.

LL Cool J received the Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award on Monday evening at the organization’s 20th anniversary spring benefit, held at the home of Russell Simmons, the music impresario and foundation chairman.

"I’ve never had an opportunity to thank the Jewish community for what they’ve done for me," LL Cool J said upon receiving the award. He went on to mention several prominent music industry Jews who have been crucial to his success.

Also honored were businessman David Sterling and his wife, Mona.

Founded by Rabbi Marc Schneier, the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding promotes black-Jewish and Muslim-Jewish relations.
